The following section provides a brief overview of the work packages. The overall project runtime is 36 months.
WP1 – Requirements Elicitation (Start M1; Duration 6M ; Lead ULEI)
This work package will be led by ULEI (to ensure a bias-free specification of the requirements) and involve all partners. The main goals of this WP are twofold. First, we need decide on the exact functional requirements to the DIESEL components based on user requirements. To achieve this goal, the requirements of the two use cases as well as current development on the research scene will play a central role. The consortium will carry out an analysis of the state of the art and define the target state after the completion of the project. On the basis of these analyses the requirements elicitation and furthermore the requirements specification will be performed. In a second step, the consortium will to develop a suitable technical architecture to fulfil these requirements.
WP2 – Federated Query Generation (Start M6; Duration 24M; Lead ULEI)
This work package will be led by ULEI and involve all partners. In this work package, the consortium will develop a query generation engine for Linked Data that will make use of the characteristics of Linked Data, i.e., links and the distribution of the data over several knowledge bases. The query generation engine will ensure access right restriction by enrolling a policy layer to the federation engine. The development of the component will be carried out in two phases. At the end of each phase, the component will be evaluated with the benchmark data provided by WP1.
WP3 – Duplicate-Aware Federated Query Processing (Start M6; Duration 24M; Lead Metaphacts)
This work package will be led by Metaphacts and involve all partners. The goal of this work package will be to provide the means to execute the queries generated in WP2 efficiently. This requires providing means to detect, store and update a count of duplicates across all knowledge contained in an enterprise in a lookup table as min-wise independent permutation (MIPs) vectors. The table is then to be used to minimize the number of sub-queries generated by the DIESEL query processing engine. Finally, the WP aims to provide efficient joins for generating the overall results of the query efficient.
WP4 – Knowledge Extraction for Enterprise Data (Start M6; Duration 30M; Lead Zazuko)
The information landscapes in enterprises converge rapidly towards Big Data landscapes with increased velocity, variety and value. While the velocity can be taken care of by rapid indexing techniques based on Hadoop, the variety must be addressed by transforming the data into a format of choice (RDF in our case) so as to efficiently release the value of the data through Business Intelligence tools. The aim of this work package is to address the variety and velocity of data in enterprises.
WP5 – Use Cases (Start M30; Duration 6M; Lead Zazuko)
The aim of this task is to evaluate the DIESEL framework within an enterprise setting. The DIESEL use cases will be provided by customers of metaphacts resp. Zazuko from the automotive resp. publishing industry, both domains being data-intensive and relying significantly in making value out of data by channelling the right data to the right expert at the right time.
WP6 – Project Management (Start M1; Duration 36M; Lead metaphacts)
This work package will be led bymetaphacts and involve all partners. Its function will be the coordination of the whole project and the dissemination of project results.
